Marchetta Madness at Chachic’s Book Nook

Readers of this blog know how much I love Melina Marchetta’s books.

You know what I love almost as much as I love her books?

Reading how other people love her books.

Chachic’s Book Nook just wrapped up Marchetta Madness, so you can do what I did this weekend: go, read, and nod in agreement over just how wonderful her books are.

Chachic begins the series with What Was Your First Marchetta, and the final post is Random Facts which also includes individual links to each Marchetta Madness post.

My favorite, of course, remains Jellicoe Road. (And, as a member of the Printz committee that selected Jellicoe Road, I cannot tell you how much I love seeing all the Jellicoe Road blogger love.)

What is your favorite Marchetta book?

If you meet someone who hasn’t read her books before, which one do you recommend they start with? Typically, I recommend Looking for Alibrandi, unless the person I’m speaking with is a fantasy lover, and I suggest starting with Finnikin of the Rock.

And, not to gloat or anything . . . but I have a copy of the film version of Alibrandi. I KNOW.

  1. Liz, thanks for spreading the word about Marchetta Madness! So glad you had fun going through the posts. My favorite Marchettas are Jellicoe Road and The Piper’s Son. I usually recommend Jellicoe to introduce readers to Marchetta because that was her first book that I read.

  2. I have to go to my book journals (it was before I was really blogging) but i’m pretty sure my first was Francesca, and then I went back to Alibrandi, and then the long long wait for the next book . . . .

  3. It is so hard for me to pick a favorite book! My first impulse is to say Jellicoe Road, but honestly, I think it might really be Saving Francesca. Something about Francesca just really stuck with me and I could read her story over and over again and never get tired. Maybe part of it was I also really loved her friends.
I’m super excited about Jellicoe Road, though, because I finally have my friends convinced that they need to read it! It is our April pick for book club!

  4. Lindsay, I adore Francesca and all the layers to it. Sounds like your April book club with Jellicoe Road will be a great one!
