For YA, the winners were:

Non-fiction: The Secret of the Yellow Death: A True Story of Medical Sleuthing by Suzanne Jurmain, Houghton Mifflin

Graphic Novels:  Yummy; The Last Days of a Southside Shorty by G. Neri, illustrated by Randy duBurke, Lee & Low Books. My review.

Fantasy & Science Fiction: Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry, Simon & Schuster

Young Adult Fiction: Split by Swati Avasthi, Knopf

  1. Congratulations, Swati and SPLIT! This book deserves this award and all the praise it’s getting. Months after reading it, the characters haunt me–in all the right ways. They’re so real I wonder what they are doing now. Beautiful prose, too, throughout a well-paced story.

  2. Split was a fantastic story, one I hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy. In fact, pull out all of the books on the shortlists and give them a try. Wonderful all of them!
